FACTS ABOUT THE FOOD BANK OF SOUTHERN IOWA

OUR MISSION: Obtain, warehouse and distribute food products to client agencies to help alleviate hunger in Southern Iowa Communities.

The Food Bank of Southern Iowa solicits, receives, inventories, and distributes donated food and grocery products. These products are distributed to partner agencies in 13 Southern Iowa counties who directly serve needy families and individuals through a variety of programs.  As a non-profit food bank, our primary role is to provide food to the charitable agencies offering direct service to hungry Iowans.

The Food Bank of Southern Iowa has also implemented the following two programs in Southern Iowa.

The Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH) program is a cooperative effort among deer hunters, the Food Bank of Southern Iowa, meat lockers, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The main goals of the HUSH program include (1) reducing the deer population, and (2) providing high-quality red meat to the needy in Iowa.  To learn more about HUSH,  click here.

The Backpack program provides food to low-income children when they do not have access to the federal free and reduced-price meal program.
